Wilfred Earl Robinson

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, Wilfred Earl Robinson, on Thursday November 3rd at the amazing age of 93. Dad was born on June 13, 1923 in Carmen, Manitoba, eldest son of Margaret Lavina and William George Robinson.

Wilfred, aka ‘Earl’, was raised on the family farm and attended a small rural school until he left school to attend to family farm duties. He enlisted for active duty with his life long friend on Dec. 31, 1941 and continued serving his country overseas with the Anti Tank Artillery, 4th Battery, 3rd Regiment until he was wounded in France on August 19, 1944. He returned to Winnipeg on January 1, 1945 and was later discharged in July. He received 5 medals for his WWII service overseas. Wilfred married Margaret Jean Anderson on June 29, 1945. They took up residence in Winnipeg before moving back to Fort William in 1947. Dad shared his love of the outdoors and life’s adventures with his family from jaunts out to the west coast to camping at Oliver Lake and West Hawk Lake. He was known to be always tinkering and firmly believed he could fix anything even if it didn’t need fixing! In later years, Earl and Jean, spent many summers camping at Pass Lake and wintering in Arizona. Retiring in 1987 from St. Joseph General Hospital, he had previously worked at Husky Oil, Lacey’s Taxi, the Public School Board, and Lakehead University. Earl was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 38 years and a former member of the Canadian Order of Foresters. Wifred was predeceased by: his wife of 58 years, Margaret Jean, parents Margaret and William, and sisters Helen and Dorothy. He is survived by his children: Heather (Dwight) Fryer, Douglas (Carmel) Robinson, Diana (George) Holmes, as well as six grandchildren: Earl, Tammy, Jeffrey, Sandra, Jason and Michael and seven great grandchildren. Also survived by brother Les (Carole) Robinson along with many nieces and nephews. A special thank you for the compassionate care from the support workers at PR Cooke Apartments, St. Joseph Care Group, for their special role in Dad’s daily life. Cremation and a private family graveside service will occur at a later date. Dad will be laid to rest with Mom at his side, together forever.
