Mr. Tonis Puskar passed away peacefully on June 20, 2016 at Pioneer Ridge Home for the Aged. Tonis was born in Estonia on June 15, 1927. Having being displaced after the end of the second world war, he immigrated to Toronto where he worked as a carpenter building homes until a year later when he took the opportunity to move to Port Arthur and work in the forestry industry. Having grown up in a farm in Estonia, this was the perfect setting for him as he loved the outdoors, and all the activities it brought including hiking, cross country skiing, fishing and camping. He was a gentle soul who loved music, nature and animals. Often in the cold months of winter, he would feed the deer and leave food for the wolves and foxes, and had a particular love for songbirds. All his life he would carry this love of nature with him. In 1958 he married Helvi and they lived with her parents until they saved enough to buy the land on which they built their home and raised their daughter Lydia in a warm and loving family. In later years he would often reflect and share how grateful he was for the life he was able to live.

Tony is predeceased by his wife Helvi (nee Kase) in 2002 and parents Juri and Maria Puskar and sister. He is survived by his daughter Lydia (Richard) Barrett, nephew Kalev Kase, niece Amanda Kase, and second wife Silvi Kurvits-Puskar.

The graveside service for Mr. Tonis Puskar will be held on Thursday, June 23, 11:00 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens, officiated by Pastor Jari Lahtinen of the Hilldale Lutheran Church.
