It is with profound sadness that we announce that our princess, Rhonda, passed away peacefully with her loving mother by her side on Thursday, September 8, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rhonda leaves us with memories of her bright, beautiful smile. We’ll remember her for her deep and unconditional love for family, friends, animals, nature and life itself. She touched so many lives and made lasting friendships with everyone she met, including coworkers at Superior Shores Gaming Association.
Rhonda faced many challenges and struggles in her short life, from the meningitis that left her with a disability to the loss of her first love, Clifford Pelly to cancer and more recently friends Kelly and Jamie. But through it all she remained strong and more concerned with the wellbeing of the people she loved than herself.
There was one ray of sunshine that was constant and filled Rhonda’s heart with joy and that was her loving bond with little Miss Hailey West.
Rhonda’s memory will be forever cherished by her husband, Sylvain Neron, parents Iris and Norm Slongo, her sibling Ryan McCoy and nephew Caius. Grandparents Joan McCoy-Hughes, Norman and Violet Slongo and special gramma Elvira Dustin. Father Ron McCoy and stepsister Carissa, stepmother Cindy Vivier and stepbrother Carter as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and second cousins, whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by grandparents Allan and Siri Untinen, grandfather Lawrence McCoy, uncles Ken and Ron Untinen.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sicheri, the nurses in the chemo unit and especially the nursing staff on 1A at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for the extraordinary compassion shown to Rhonda and her family. These special people went above and beyond to make Rhonda’s final weeks as comfortable as possible. Also Rhonda’s dear friend Melanie Anderson and her girls, Cindy, Gloria, Lauri, Leanne, Elvira and cousins Eileen, Joanne and Kim for always being there to provide love and support. We’d also like to thank Norman Prenger for baptizing Rhonda and giving her peace and comfort as she prepared to leave us to embark on her next journey.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, September 15th at the Slovak Legion at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers we would appreciate donations be made in her name to a charity that promotes the care and protection of animals.
A favourite quote of Rhonda’s; Life is not the breath you take, the breath in and out that gets you through the day isn’t what it’s all about. You just might miss the point trying to win the race if you don’t slow down the pace and enjoy the moments that take your breath away.
