It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Reginald Lloyd Jones on Monday, December 29, 2014 with his wife by his side in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after a brief illness.

Lloyd was born February 14, 1932 in Norfolk County (southern Ontario) to Victor and Della Jones. Lloyd was educated in Waterford where he enjoyed acting in plays and operettas. He completed Teacher’s College at Hamilton Normal School in 1952. That fall, he began teaching in a one room rural school at Walpole in Haldimand County. He moved up to a two room school in Oakland, Brant County where he was the principal from 1954-1959. He then moved to Greenbrier (13 rooms!) where he was the principal until 1967.

During those early years, Lloyd was very busy. He married Helen Banbury at Waterford in 1952. He graduated with is BA from the University of Western Ontario in 1960 and then completed his Principal’s papers over the summer of 1960. In 1962, Lloyd received his B. Ed followed by his Inspector’s Certificate in 1964, his Masters of Education from the University of Toronto in 1966 and his Special Education qualifications in 1970.

In 1967 Lloyd and Helen moved to Dryden, ON where Lloyd accepted a position with the Ministry of Education as a Public School Inspector. Lloyd and Helen moved the young family to Thunder Bay (Fort William) in 1969 when Lloyd accepted a position with the regional offices of the Ministry of Education. Lloyd retired from the Ministry of Education in August of 1989 but continued to supervise some northern schools until August 1998.

Lloyd enjoyed woodworking and gardening, but was happiest spending time with family. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He was a strong supporter of Cam’s and Jeff’s activities especially their sports. In 2003, along came Liam and Julia. Lloyd spent as much time as he could getting out to soccer and hockey events to cheer on his grandchildren.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Jones; son Cam (Susan) Jones; grandchildren Liam and Julie Jones; brother Don (Olean) Jones; nephews Reg and Chris Jones and their families; brother-in-law Fred Snively; nephew Dale (Susan) Snively and family.

He was predeceased by his parents Victor and Della Jones, his son Jeffrey, sister-in-law Hilda Snively and nephew Darryl Snively.

As per Lloyd’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
