It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Peter Rebernik announces his sudden passing at TBRH with his family by his side.

Peter (Ata/Opa) was born, one of 7 children, on a farm in Kapla, Slovenia (Former Yugoslavia). Although his early years were difficult, he was proud of his heritage.

Peter immigrated to Canada in 1957 settling in Morson, ON. This is where he discovered his love and talent for carpentry. In 1964 he returned to Yugoslavia met & married Alojzija (Louise) Veber. They settled in Thunder Bay. In 1966 he became an Ata for the first time with the birth of his first child, Shirley. Soon to be followed by Erika in 1968, Rudy in 1970 & finally Peter Jr in 1972.

Over the years Peter worked at various jobs including bush camps, Can Car, & Northern Woods. It was his love of carpentry that allowed him to be self-employed for the majority of his working life.

One of the greatest joys in his life is when he became Opa to Jasmine in 2000. They were inseparable until the very end.

Peter has suffered a great deal of heartache in his life. Most notably, with the passing of both of his sons, Rudy in 2002 and Peter in 2004. After the passing of Peter, he was determined to find a piece of lakefront property that would be enjoyed by his whole family. He spent the last few years doing what he loved to do and the result is his legacy to his family, known as Rocky Point.

He is survived by his wife Louise, daughter Shirley (James) van Dyken, Erika (Edward) Maki, and by his favorite playmate, and “opica” Jasmine Maki.

Peter's family would like to thank both Dr. Habjan and Dr. Lai for their years of care. We would also like to thank the staff of 2C for their exceptional care and compassion.

Visitation will be held at Jenkens Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 22 between 7:30 & 9. Funeral services will be held at Jenkens at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 23 with internment to follow at Stanley Hill Cemetery.

Reception will be held at Rosslyn Community Centre from 4 to 6.

In lieu of flowers a scholarship has been set up in Peter's name for the construction techniques course at Confederation College.
