<div itemprop="description">It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Mikko Jaakko Tapio Kivimaki on Sunday, November 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with colon cancer, with family by his side. Born November 24, 1941 in Finland. Survived by his wife of 53 years (48 years married) Cheryl Dianne Kivimaki; his daughters Margaret Keeper (Mike) of Thunder Bay and Roxanna DeBoer (Pat) of Ottawa; his son Jeffrey Kivimaki (Shannon) of Red Cliff, Alberta; grandchildren Crystal Russell, Bradley Nash, Tammy DeBoer, Kevin DeBoer, Sarah DeBoer, Mitchel Colehouse and Kendra Kivimaki; great granddaughter Madison Russell who he loved to pieces and adored her visits. Also survived by one brother Timo (Raija) Kivimaki of Finland and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Atturi and Hilja Kivimaki; sister Hilkka; brother-in-law Roy Okerlund and brother Alpho Kivimaki. Mikko worked for Enos Electric and various trucking companies in Thunder Bay. The last trucking company was McKevitt Trucking Thunder Bay in 2006 before retiring. Mikko enjoyed bowling with his buddies and friends on Saturdays and Wednesdays. He also enjoyed his truck trips with grandson Bradley when he was trucking to Winnipeg on March break. He will be very much missed by family and friends. He was a simple and joking person. Everyone loved him!! Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service for Mikko Kivimaki will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home with Rev. Jari Lahtinen of Hilldale Lutheran Church officiating with a reception to follow. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Donations to charity of your choice would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the people at the scene and the off duty OPP officer that helped mom and dad and also to the trauma staff that helped dad. A big thank you for all your efforts.</div>
