Mike Berezowski, 85, of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 7, 2016. He was born September 28, 1931 in Margo, Saskatchewan to Mike and Alice Berezowski. He is predeceased by his wife, Sonja Marlene Berezowski (February 14, 2014) and is survived by his children, David (Wendy) Berezowski, Brian (Bonnie) Berezowski and Michelle Berezowski (Neil Hildebrandt), his grandchildren Heather, Kaitlynd, Breann, Kristoffer and Brittany and his brothers-in-law, Ed (Estella) Donolovitch and Bill Donolovitch and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He lived in Rama, Saskatchewan until his late teens when he moved to Southern Ontario to work at Hamilton Cotton Mills. It was there that he and Sonja became a couple. They married in 1958 and lived in Kitchener/Waterloo until 1966 when they moved back to Thunder Bay.

Mike worked as a Service Technician for Pitney Bowes for 33 years retiring in 1988. He took immense pride in his work and was well liked and greatly respected in offices around Northwestern Ontario.

Although Mike only went to school until Grade 10, he had a keen mind and could problem solve almost any handyman issue. He enjoyed gardening and always felt well rewarded when he had a bumper crop of tomatoes, potatoes or pretty much any type of vegetable! In his 50s he began to acknowledge his creative and artistic side. He took courses on watercolour painting and wood carving.

After much careful reflection, he realized that his house was far too big for him and far too empty. In 2012, he moved into Isabella Seniors Residence. It turned out to be a wonderful place! It was like he gained a new lease on life. Along with regular visits to Mom, he began going to McDonald’s again…visiting with Reno and Lena…and the ‘gang’ (of guys). He started to attend the musical performances and participate in arts and crafts events and even became the ‘official photographer at Isabella!

Mike had a confident personality and was very pragmatic about many things; however, he had a loving heart and a kind and generous spirit.

Funeral services for Mike Berezowski will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Jenkens Funeral Home, 226 South Syndicate Avenue. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Reception at Jenkens to follow.

The family would like to thank Dr. Yeh and the staff on 2A at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre. Many specialists and therapists also assisted with his care during his time in hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to any of the following foundations/agencies: Alzheimer’s Society of Thunder Bay at 310-180 Park Avenue, Thunder Bay, ON P7B 6J4 or Hogarth Riverview Manor or Manor House Adult Day Program c/o St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay at 63 Carrie Street, Thunder Bay, ON P7A 4J2.
