It is with much sadness that the family of Louis Albert Nagy announce his peaceful passing at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Monday, December 14, 2015, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Lou was born in Yarbo, Saskatchewan on March 15, 1932, and was raised on the Nagy family farm. His first employment was supposed to be with the potash mines located near Yarbo, however in 1950 he decided to follow his sweetheart, Berniece, to Thunder Bay and start a new career. Lou was very proud of his career with S J Hill & Sons Trucking Company (International Harvester) where he worked for over 40 years. He was very devoted to his job and willing to do whatever, whenever, to make sure his clients were happy.

Lou married his best friend, Berniece Zak, in November 1952. They have been married for 63 years and together raised 4 children. Throughout his life Lou loved fishing, hunting and the general outdoors. For many years he and Berniece enjoyed spending summers at Bolduc Bay on Dog Lake, where he loved his camp, his sauna and the company of family and friends. Every year, his family would vacation at the summer camp with their own children, where fishing with “Papa” was a very special thing to do.

Lou was an avid baseball and hockey fan and could often be seen supporting the local teams. He played baseball for the Videon Vees and was the MVP pitcher for many years with the team. “Leapin’ Lou” was a proud member of the Port Arthur Curling Club, where he enjoyed the men’s competitive, Go-Slow, and mixed curling leagues for over 50 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was the treasurer for several years, delivering food hampers, and selling car raffle tickets in every mall. Often, Berniece would accompany him so he would not be there alone.

Lou's greatest pride and joy was his family, especially his, grandchildren and great-grandchild. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Berniece; his children Donna (Thelma), Vivian (Rick), Brian (Pierre) and Louis jr (Sherry); his grandchildren Suzanne, Stephanie (Landon), Rick jr, Brett, Justin and his great-grandchild Noah. Lou is also survived by his sister MaryAnn (Dieter) Wichmann and his brother Gilbert (Florence). Lou was predeceased by his parents Anna and Joseph Nagy, and his parents-in-law Sophie and John Zak.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Church, 664 Red River Road in Thunder Bay. A Reception to Celebrate Lou’s life will follow the mass in the basement of the church. Private Interment will follow.

Friends who so desire are respectfully asked to donate to the St Joseph's Hospice Palliative Care unit, where a very caring team of nurses and health professionals ensured that his final days were as comfortable and as dignified as possible. For that we will always be thankful. Alternatively, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Rest in peace Lou. You will be loved and remembered always.

And a Super Holy Catz to you Papa!
