It is with profound sadness that the family of Lois Audrey Ditchfield (Thompson), announces that she passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Sunday, October 9, 2016, surrounded by family.

Lois, the daughter of Lloyd and Esmerelda Thompson, was born in Fort William on May 28th, 1921. Her pride and joy was her family and she loved her children, David, Bob, and Nancy so dearly. This love for children also spilled into her long and influential career as a Special Education teacher in Thunder Bay. Lois had a great sense of adventure that led her to travel the world and she always looked forward to sharing the wonderful stories of her travels with her family and friends. As recently as this past March, Lois traveled with her daughter Nancy to her favourite destination - the white, sandy beaches of Cancun, Mexico, where she embraced the warmth of the culture and inspired all those around her with her zest for life.

Lois is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Max, her first husband, Jack Thompson, and her second husband, Vernon Ditchfield.

Lois is survived by her three children, David Ditchfield (Wilma), Bob Ditchfield, and Nancy Armstrong (Murray); her grandchildren, Krista Morriseau (Sean), Tanya Ditchfield, Sarah Ditchfield (Mark Monaghan), Chris Armstrong, Nicole Armstrong, Eric Lepage and Stephanie Lepage; her great grandchildren, Taylor and Liam Morriseau, Ciaran Marshall, Matthew, Amelia, and Sophia Monaghan, as well as her beloved dog and companion, Buddy.

The family extends their sincerest thanks to the staff of the emergency and cardiac units at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for their vigilant efforts to keep Lois comfortable in her final days. Also, our gratitude goes to all those caregivers who provided unending support to Lois in her final years.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial at St PaulĀ¹s United Church on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11:00am. A small reception is to follow afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choosing.
