Kay Veley
1923 – 2013

Mrs. Kathline Veley, age 89 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2013 in Pioneer Ridge with her loving family at her side.

Kay was born on December 29, 1923 in Fort William to her parents the late Albert and May Ferguson. She later met and married Gordon Robert Veley in 1941 and together they lived in Lisotowel, South Gillies, Seaforth and with the majority of their years in Thunder Bay. Gordon served in the Canadian Armed Forces during WW2 and during this time Kay worked in House-keeping at the Hospital. As a house keeper Kay took great pride in her work. Many of Kay’s hours were spent in her garden, crocheting and she was fantastic in the kitchen. She will be mostly remembered by her strength and determination throughout her life and when the odds were stacked against her, Kay always seemed to prevail.

She is survived by her daughter Linda (Wally) DeWolfe of Seaforth, Ontario; loving grandmother of Cheryl (Dean) Johnson, Natalee (Kevin) Wynja, Ronda Veley, Robbie Veley Jr., Mike Smith, Debra (Trent) Ward and Joe Smith; 14 great grandkids and 9 great-great grandkids. Kay was predeceased by her husband Gordon; by her siblings: Albert, Clayton and step-sister Doris; daughter Brendalee and her son Robert Veley Sr.

The family wishes to express their great appreciation for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Kay and her family during the time she was at Pioneer Ridge. Special thanks to the staff of Plaza 1 who went far beyond the call of duty…..you know who you are.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the Hospice Northwest would be appreciated by the family.
