Gerry is lovingly remembered by his wife Colyne of 60 years; his son Brent; granddaughter Ashley Gibbons and grandson David Gibbons, sister and brother-in-law Valarie and Ron Sutton, and sister-in-law Betty Gibbons, also many nieces and nephews as well as family in England.

Gerry was born in Fort William, to George “Tony” and Mabel Gibbons, he was the eldest of four children. Gerry’s love of country life began in Vickers Heights, where he was the “paper boy” on Victor St., he often shared with his sons his fond memories of those days. In June of 1948 at the age of 14 that chapter of his life came to a sudden end when his father was killed in an industrial accident at Great Lakes Paper. The family moved into the city, where they resided on Norah St.

Gerry was an excellent athlete, playing football while at St. Patrick’s High School and later for the Westfort Ukes. Golf was another sport he enjoyed, shooting a hole in one and scoring an eight ender in curling. He and his team enjoyed travelling to many bonspiels throughout northern Minnesota, where he met and developed many friendships amongst the curling community.

Gerry attended St. Patrick’s High School, and worked during the summer as a tour guide at Great Lakes Paper. Upon reaching 16 he took a job with Great Lakes as a 6th hand on the paper machines retiring in 1991 as a supervisor with 41 years service. Following his retirement he and Colyne moved to Upsala which was a half hour drive to their camp in Graham and where Gerry was the happiest. He enjoyed hunting, as well as fishing, introducing his sons, Brent and Mark as well as his nephew Glenn to fishing which in his words was the “sport of kings,” blueberry picking with his friend Dino or brother Ted was also a pleasure, there was little he didn’t enjoy about the outdoors, including feeding the wild life that came to his yard, always keeping the bird feeders full, both in Graham and Upsala.

Come November he and Colyne would drive south to their winter home in Arizona, where they spent 25 great years, meeting and developing friendships with many wonderful people. Playing shuffleboard at Simpleton’s and travelling and visiting many historical sites throughout Arizona was another favorite past time, as was spending New Years in Vegas.

Gerry and Colyne married in 1956, celebrating 60 years together in September. They became a family with the birth of their sons, Brent in 1958 and Mark in 1961. In 1990 he and Colyne suffered the loss of their son Mark and in 2007 they lost their eldest grandson Travis. He was predeceased by his father Tony, 1948, his mother Mabel 1999 and youngest brother David in a drowning accident in Hawaii in 1978 and his brother Ted in 2015.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Gerry Gibbons will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home.
