It is with great sadness and sorrow that the Quarrell family announces the passing away of Delpha Mercada Quarrell on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Thunder Bay, at the age of 83 years. Delpha passed away peacefully with her family by her side.

Delpha was born on July 9, 1932 in Fruitful Vale, Swift River Jamaica where she was raised on a banana plantation with 13 siblings. She caught the eye of a travelling sailor John, from Dumfermline Scotland, and both were soon married in Kingston Jamaica on April 3, 1957. They both moved to Fort William, Ontario in August of that same year.

Delpha was a quietly private, passionate, generous individual who lived her life with grace and a dedication to her family. She loved to make ceramics, crochet, collect items and enjoyed reading the National Inquiry, The Globe and The Star weekly. She was a dedicated and hard-working stay at home mother who truly was only devoted to her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren all of whom were the centre of her life as she cared for them unconditionally. Delpha was a humble woman who never complained even when she became diagnosed with cancer. Her motto was, “I am ok as I am only taking one day at a time”. Her family will greatly miss her quotes, her advice and her helping hands.

Delpha was a devoted Seventh Day Adventist parishioner who truly believed in Jesus Christ. She would always spend time reading the bible and would often share a quote to anyone who had the time to listen, or she would hand out a verse or two from the scriptures so they could save it in their wallet or purse. “May God continue to richly bless you abundantly more than you could ever hope or think in all your endeavours”.

She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband John and her two sons: Barry (Susan) and Andrew (Tracey); 7 grandchildren: Nathaniel, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Danielle, Brittany, Mason and Jordan and two great grandchildren, Nevaeh and Madison.

Delpha was predeceased by her parents Gladys and Rasford McKenzie.

Funeral services for Delpha will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens to follow. Visitation for family and friends will be held ½ hour prior to the funeral service on Friday, August 7th.

Delpha’s family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at the St. Joseph’s Hospice and the Regional Cancer Clinic at TBRHSC for the compassion and care they provided for her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Northern Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated.

My wife, my mother, my friend, our bond will never end; your place in our
heart will never part. We all love you.

The Quarrell family
