After a brave and valiant year-long fight with mesothelioma, D'Arcy Llewelyn Kay, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on September 21, 2016.

D'Arcy is survived by his children; daughters Pamela (Mark, Steven, Jimmy, Adina) Kean, Darcalene (Ken) Kopp, Kris (Ray, Melinda, Cody) Maksymiw. Siblings Shirley (Billy) Youmans, Beverly Lynch, Sharryn (Laurie) McCollum. And mother of his children and wife for 35 years, Marlene Mitchell. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Predeceased by son Robert (Sharon, Keeshah, Shazia) Kay, parents Robert John (Jack) and Doreen Muriel (Dodie) Kay, brothers Robert, Pat, Terry (in infancy) and brother-in-law Jimmy Lynch.

D'Arcy was a loving father, husband, grandfather and a great friend to all.

D'Arcy was well known as the Blueberry King, had the strength, character and curl (!) of Superman and was widely known to have the tenacity of the "Fighting Irish".

D'Arcy worked in general construction for 40+ years and was a heavy machine operator with Head-Way, Kauz Construction and Atkinson Garage. Dad was proud to have operated many forms of machinery on the job until he was forced to take an early retirement due to a work related knee injury.

Dad enjoyed being busy, especially outdoors. He loved going to the bush and riding his quad around, searching for the perfect fishing hole and Blueberry patch. He had many, many friends and part of his daily routine was visiting them at the hospital, coffee shop or chatting on the phone. Dad loved his daily talks with his daughters, as well as Billy, Bradly, George and Loren, just to name a few and never missed a day if he could help it.

Dad was always the person you could turn to and he was always there to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and even strangers. He would do anything for others and never ask for a thing in return. It truly was his way and he loved doing it.

But most of all, D'Arcy loved his family with his whole heart and soul and spending time in their company was what made his heart swell.

Dad didn't let his diagnosis stop him from living life. Although in pain, he never complained, was never angry or felt bad for himself and the cards that life had dealt him. Instead He truly lived life to the fullest; and it's as though he lived an entire lifetime in this past year. Cutting the grass, blueberry picking in his beloved Blueberry patch, road trips with Billy, Shirley, Greta and Patty to Nipigon to see sisters Bev and Sharryn, week-long adventure to Winnipeg to pick up granddaughter Melinda, Friday night suppers at daughter Pam's, birthday bashes for Marlene and himself, that his daughter Darcalene and her husband Ken came home from Ottawa to celebrate with Mom, Dad and the whole family, and a week-long camping trip to Trout Lake to round off the summer. Dad truly lived and loved life and anyone who was around him could feel that positive energy just flowing from him.

A special thank you to Heidi and Jenkens Funeral Home, Drs Davis, Faghih, Ramchandar and Noetzel and Bayshore staff for their loving care and support. A special mention to the wonderful nursing staff who cared for Dad on his last hospital stay. And most importantly, a huge thank you to Dawn - who made Dads day a little brighter, his step a little lighter and always put a huge smile on his face! Your compassion and love for Dad will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Jenkens Funeral Home on Monday, September 26. Funeral services for D'Arcy will be on Tuesday, September 27 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Private Internment of ashes will be held Thursday, September 29 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorial donations may be made in his honour to the TBRHSC Foundation - Mesothelioma Fund. www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca

In honour of Dad's proud Irish heritage, we kindly ask you to wear something green (an item of clothing or accessory) to the service.
